Airdrie – Centenary Park Centinals

Background

Centenary Park is between Airdrie and Coatbridge and situated beneath the railway viaduct, near Monklands Hospital.

The head monuments are made of galvanised steel and were installed in 2008.

They are called “Centinals” and were created by artist Lara Greene. Each is in the form of an abstract head and shoulders, one female and one male, facing each other and sited either side of the path.

She described them as “guardians of a peaceful park allowing people to enter and leave behind all the activity of the road and town.”
