East Kilbride – Bonnar’s Concrete Elephants

These concrete structures, found in Westwood Hill Park and deep within a housing estate in Greenhills, were created by Stan Bonnar in his role as “town artist” throughout the 1970’s, when the New Town Development Corporation was created.

He created similar elephant structures for the proposed and partly constructed new town development in Stonehouse. Plans for Stonehouse to become Scotland’s sixth new town were scrapped several days prior to the official launch.
