Lanark – Dead Man’s Lane Mural

Background

Between Hyndford Road and Lanark Grammar School is a footpath that locals called Dead Man’s Lane, due to its proximity to a graveyard. For many years the walkway was poorly maintained and subjected to vandalism.

With the ambition of improving the footpath, Lanark Community Development Trust, the Lanark Rotary Club and the art department of the high school embarked on replacing the wooden fence with a mural, as well as providing landscaping and erecting new signage.

The mural has been created with pupils works, depicting local landmarks, moments of the town’s history and the town’s cultural events, as well as some things that Lanark is notable for.

As part of the works, the lane was officially named as Dead Man’s Lane with the installation of a new sign.
