Larkhall – Genview Memorial Fountain

Background

Situated within the Glenview Memorial Park is an attractive 18ft high and brightly coloured canopy fountain, with eight columns and detailed design on the arches and canopy. At the base of the fountain is a mosaic in place of a missing drinking fountain.

The fountain was created by Saracen Foundry in Glasgow and features images of memorial shields. Floral designs are on the canopy and dome and on the outside of the dome are Grffins.

As part of the redevelopment of the park, the mosaic was created by artist Alan Potter. It features moments of Larkhall’s history, as well as the town’s culture, with icons that are accompanied by brief descriptions in text, laid out as a timeline as you walk around the fountain. In the middle is an icon of lark ascending over a hill, to signify the town’s name.

A further fifteen mosaics have been installed on the pathways leading up to the fountain, which were designed by children of the town.
