Shire Extra for lanarkshire Shire Extra Across Lanarkshire
This is one of four underpasses in Motherwell that connect the town centre with the neighbouring estates and suburbs, each of which have been transformed with public artworks.
The underpass that connects the car park of the Brandon Parade shopping centre with the junction of Barrie Street and Brandon Street has paintings that depict nearby beauty spots, as well as some local famous people and some of the area’s history.
The paintings and pencil-works were printed onto tiles that cover the whole length of the underpass. There is a key to the atworks next to the ramp and steps at the Barrie Street end of the walkway.
Each of the large paintings are shown as having been created with oil paint and put into frames that are carried by life-size pencil figures.
The designers were Kristina Macaulay and Bruce Macaulay of 6274.
