Shire Extra for lanarkshire Shire Extra Across Lanarkshire

Newhouse – Woman, Man, Sun, Moon

Background

Situated beside the M8 motorway is a 9-metre-high aluminium artwork depicting a woman and man standing on a rounded mound of earth. Both are holding the sun and each of them are separately holding moons.

This is one of many pieces of public art that has been installed along the motorway, with two in Lanarkshire including the Big Heids monument less than 1 mile to the West.

The sculpture, created by Kate Robinson, was erected in 2011 next to a large distribution warehouse that is owned by the Co-operative, She won a competition that was held by the Co-op in conjunction with the Scottish Arts Council.
