Shire Extra for lanarkshire Shire Extra Across Lanarkshire
A 6-metre high steel sculpture, featuring two concave arms covered with steel rectangles, stands on a pathway that leads into an area of redeveloped land situated on a meander of the River Clyde known as the Cuningar Loop.
The former landfill site of 15 hectares was transformed to become a community woodland, a country park and a recreation area, in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. A bridge across the Clyde connects the Cuningar Loop with the former Athletes’ Village. The site features rock climbing boulders, riverside walks, a BMX track, a playpark for children and other public art installations.
The steel structure, named ‘Evolve’, was created by Rob Mulholland. Through much involvment with the surrounding communities, it was designed to represent the transformation of the Cuningar Loop from derelict land into the vibrant community space that it is today. It is located close at the south entrance of the site, which is managed by Forestry Commission Scotland.
