Shoegaze is a Scottish and Irish subgenre of indie and alternative rock music, with much of it having come from Lanarkshire. Recognisable for its heavy use of effects pedals, feedback and loud echoing guitars, its name comes from the tendency of guitarists to look down at their effects pedals during performances, giving the impression they’re looking at their shoes. Jim has gone through his music collection to find the Scottish and Irish bands and artists that qualify for for this genre, as well as those across the world who immitated the style and caused the birth of other similar genres and sounds.
