Remember that great single which you’re sure was a hit? Unfortunately, your memory may be playing tricks on you because even though you know the song well and it probably was (or still gets) played on the radio a lot, the UK’s record-buyers were often fickle and didn’t purchase enough copies to send it into the mainstream charts. On this show we give those songs the recognition they probably deserved, as well as playing tracks that were far outside of the Top 40 and have been stuck in record archives. Be prepared for a few surprises, as we play familiar pop and rock singles that were only a few hundred sales from getting into the UK’s Top 40. Be astonished as you listen to tracks that were hits across the world but were never released in the UK (or failed to chart here). Be amazed as you hear songs that were regularly played on radio – except during Sunday Evening chart shows. Be gobsmacked at the tunes that had so much potential but sadly became only available in the bargain bins at record stores. Art plays those songs from his collection, with some of the singles still having Woolworths price stickers on them.
